Upper Bridger School Memories

Mrs. Louise Nickey and the Upper Bridger School pupils 1953The first day of school after you’d selected your very best “school” outfit; you’d enter the room, leave your coat and sack lunch in the “cloak” room and be enveloped by the smells of brand new crayons and floor compound.

One of my most favorite Christmas Program memories from there was a year when the “play” somehow centered on Cinderella.  The production took place in the Community Church just down the road from the school.  I was most impressed by one of the Lachenmeir girls, don’t know whether it was Sonja or Irene as they were both blonds, but she came on stage in a “other worldly” long blue dress and high heeled shoes covered in tin foil, that I thought were just simply too divine. At the end of the evening, Santa came and gave each child a brown paper bag rolled up with hard ribbon candies and peanuts in the shell.
