About
This blog is dedicated to preserving Gallatin County Montana’s last remaining one-room schoolhouses by building a community of people who care whether or not these structures are preserved as parts of our landscape and our community. If you attended, taught in, or were otherwise involved with one of Montana’s rural schools or one-room schools, this is a place to share your memories and reconnect with the good old days of potbellied stoves, outhouses, chalkboards, Christmas programs and schoolyard games.
This is great. I remember a lot of funny stories from my mom about her days at the Upper Bridger School. I wonder if any one has some pictures. Can pictures be posted here also?
Yes, you can absolutely share photos, but I think you’ll need to contact me to have me upload them. Bear in mind that this is a public blog, so anything you send me to upload becomes part of it. Of course, I will only post memories and photos that people specifically ask me to post! I’d love it if you could send photos, and the sooner people begin sharing their memories, the better.
The comment about Christmas programs brought back a few emories. My school probably averaged around 30 students in all six grades, with two teachers and two rooms. We practiced the traditional Christmas carols each year and put on a brief evening program before the holidays.
In our neighborhood was a German family. The parents were survivors of the Holocaust and spoke mostly German at home. Each year the three school boys sang familiar carols in German like ‘Oh Tannenbaum’ and other I can’t remember the names of.
Strange how I hadn’t thought of that in over 40 years.
I’ve been looking for stories of Upper Bridger Canyon. I am delighted to find pictures and stories about the Morans. Eddie was my uncle. Jack Moran the oldest boy of Edward and Florine is my Dad. I would love to get more pictures and stories about life up Bridger. The Moran girls, Betty and Mickey are still alive and would love to see and read more if you have the information. Thanks you!!!
